Michele continued to run the firm right up until his death in 1963. His son Antonio took over the running of the firm. Under the leadership of Antonio, the father of Michele Jr., Massimo and Fiammetta, the firm continued to prosper and strengthened its links with the British market. The English were fond of carvings and this led to the idea of Famous Ladies, a new series of cameos that reproduced the paintings of famous nineteenth century artists. It proved to be a great success and was a great economic boost for the artisans of Torre del Greco who, in order to meet the new demand, carved the shells in their workshops and sent them to Britain and America.
